Really quite usable, and I'm impressed. Secondly, I'm having a wee problem with Freemail. I'm on OS X, using Mail.app. I've successfully configured SMTP for outbound mail, and IMAP for inbound mail, but I don't seem to be able to see any mailboxes in the IMAP view - so where my sent mail is being stored, I'm not quite sure. My guess is that I need to correctly specify a PATH prefix in IMAP, or it might be a bug, or it might just be me not understanding things properly. A more clearer hierarchy would be a good thing. - -Don't have persistent storage for the stuff like fms/frost keys. - -Really persistant downloads. The user is connected with darknet+opennet, so there are often new peers who don't have the previously fetched chunks in their datastore, and you have to re-download the already downloaded chunks. An on-disk storage would be great. - -The freenet.ini file could contain all parameters and have some comments, so we could edit it on headless machines. - -DDA doesn't work on MacOS. (I'll ask the user to do a bug report). - -Show the networkSizeEstimateSession even in the simple mode. - -What is the "connectivity" page for ? (it seems to confuse a lot of user...) Is it usefull ? - -In the "queue" page, we can insert a file, why can't we donwload a file too from this page, but only from the homepage ? - -A tray icon which shows the current state of the node and some other infos. That's all for now, if some other answer show up, I'll post them here. I know that all those things aren't usefull, but some might be. Regards, Dieppe. I have the Program Files/freenet directory and the bin directory installed. There is a wrapper.conf file in the bin directory, but no wrapper.log file anywhere in the freenet directory tree. When I use the "Start Freenet" shortcut on the desktop, I get this error message: "Starting freenet -the service name is invalid" When I try to access http://127.0.0.1:8888 , I get: "Firefox cannot find the server" Freenet 0.7.0 appears to be partially installed, is there a way to reinstall without uninstalling? If one of the nodes is connected to the "global" darknet, then the ten nodes have access to the global darknet but routing might be impaired as the other nine nodes will not connect to the darknet. Opennet is a completely different story as nodes are seeded by seednodes (therefore private networks are possible if the nodes don't access the seednodes, but by default opennet nodes ask seednodes). Also opennet nodes do swap informations about their peers, so nodes without knowledge of other nodes might come across new noderefs and connect to previously unknown nodes to enhance connectivity. Hope this helped Peter S wrote: > Just a simple question; 10 peers, none using opennet, and all > interconnected with each node having the other 9 in their trusted > peers list .. will they be able to access the 'actual freenet', or is > this just a small private and closed circle, with only the content > they publish inside that circle available? > If 10 peers in a closed loop as described /can/ access the freenet, I > just don't understand HOW that's possible without talking to other > nodes in an opennet fashion and somewhat compromising the closed loop. > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > _______________________________________________ > Support mailing list > Support at freenetproject.org > http://news.gmane.org/gmane.network.freenet.support > Unsubscribe at http://emu.freenetproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/support > Or mailto:support-request at freenetproject.org?subject=unsubscribe From petersve at gmail.com Sun Jun 8 18:28:57 2008 From: petersve at gmail.com (Peter S) Date: Sun, 8 Jun 2008 20:28:57 +0200 Subject: [freenet-support] quick question In-Reply-To: <484BC49C.9000800@web.de> References: <39741b470806080405nf3426b9wd4dc57d1e31ae49a@mail.gmail.com> <484BC49C.9000800@web.de> Message-ID: <39741b470806081128t40f29c5clb304b033f883c54b@mail.gmail.com> Sure did. Works as I reckoned, but it then also means that the 'safe peers' part of it is slightly impaired, as you HAVE to do node-ref exchanges to the 'inside', with people you've probably only talked briefly with, to get the full Freenet working. And I guess the 'auto-update' feature only works through there. 2008/6/8 freenetwork at web.de : > If these ten nodes are only interconnected with themselves they -of > course- have no access to the larger network and therefore form a small > private, albeit darknet, network. > If one of the nodes is connected to the "global" darknet, then the ten > nodes have access to the global darknet but routing might be impaired as > the other nine nodes will not connect to the darknet. > > Opennet is a completely different story as nodes are seeded by seednodes > (therefore private networks are possible if the nodes don't access the > seednodes, but by default opennet nodes ask seednodes). > Also opennet nodes do swap informations about their peers, so nodes > without knowledge of other nodes might come across new noderefs and > connect to previously unknown nodes to enhance connectivity. > > Hope this helped > > > Peter S wrote: > > Just a simple question; 10 peers, none using opennet, and all > > interconnected with each node having the other 9 in their trusted > > peers list .. will they be able to access the 'actual freenet', or is > > this just a small private and closed circle, with only the content > > they publish inside that circle available? > > If 10 peers in a closed loop as described /can/ access the freenet, I > > just don't understand HOW that's possible without talking to other > > nodes in an opennet fashion and somewhat compromising the closed loop. > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > > > _______________________________________________ > > Support mailing list > > Support at freenetproject.org > > http://news.gmane.org/gmane.network.freenet.support > > Unsubscribe at > http://emu.freenetproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/support > > Or mailto:support-request at freenetproject.org?subject=unsubscribe > _______________________________________________ > Support mailing list > Support at freenetproject.org > http://news.gmane.org/gmane.network.freenet.support > Unsubscribe at > http://emu.freenetproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/support > Or mailto:support-request at freenetproject.org?subject=unsubscribe > -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... When I start Frost I am asked which version of of freenet I am using and I choose darknet 0.7. After clicking OK I only get as far as "initializing mainframe". I waited for like 20 minutes. I ran the debug version which didn't provide any helpful hints in the log file. Actually no (relevant) entries. I am behind a router. This mainly happens if I haven't used it for a few months. One thing to check is if there is a dialog box warning you about old versions of keys (I wondered why Frost wasn't starting, and this was buried behind loads of other windows!), but if this is a new install, then this shouldn't be the problem. > -----Original Message----- > From: support-bounces at freenetproject.org > [mailto:support-bounces at freenetproject.org] On Behalf Of > anonymouser anonymouser > Sent: 17 June 2008 20:59 > To: jtcfrost-support at lists.sourceforge.net; support at freenetproject.org > Subject: [freenet-support] Please somebody help. Or send the things that appeared on console and in .log, this may help to figure out what the problem is. You will need to do the following: in the terminal window: sudo apt-get sun-java6-jre (you'll need to agree to some licencing things, but it will work) Now another problem will be that your computer will *still* use the gnu java after that, so you'll need to change the alternatives. in the terminal window: sudo update-alternatives --config java You will be asked to chose which one to use, so select the thing which has 'sun' in the path. This should work, if it still doesn't ask away, i'll try to help. -- http://freedom.libsyn.com/ Voice of Freedom, Radical Podcast http://eng.anarchopedia.org/ Anarchopedia, A Free Knowledge Portal "None of us are free until all of us are free." ~ Mihail Bakunin From hierophant at HELL.COM Sun Jun 22 02:56:50 2008 From: hierophant at HELL.COM (Hierophant) Date: Sat, 21 Jun 2008 19:56:50 -0700 Subject: [freenet-support] (no subject) Message-ID: <20080621195650.7AC5F42C@resin17.mta.everyone.net> An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
