I'd be willing and able to write a plugin to do just that. Additionally
I even think that that's a good idea. :)

If the node first starts up and realizes that it doesn't have a single
peer, an alert will tell the user to go the plugins page and load the
"OpenNet Collector" plugin and everything will be good. No fiddling with
IRC clients, FreeNode registration, python bots, pastebins... just pure
1-click comfort. (We should register "1-Click Comfort" as trademark. ;)
