Static means it belongs to the class rather than the particular instance of 
the class. For example Logger provides a static interface because it's 
perfectly okay for all nodes etc in the same VM to use a single Logger. Most 
things should be kept on other structures. For example most of the client 
layer has access to an InsertContext or FetchContext.
