[10:45] <mike5> hello
[10:45] <mike5> anybody active here?
[10:46] <p0s> yes
[10:46] <mike5> hi!
[10:46] <mike5> could you perhaps help me find freenet refs?
[10:47] <mike5> I believe it should be possible to acquire them automatically, but I don't know how...
[10:48] <IMCensored1> p0s: if your on the access list of -dev ... you should be able to get chanserv to invite you... unless the channel config is all weird and modified
[10:49] <IMCensored1> on a normal channel you need to be atleast level 10 to get chanserv to invite...
[10:49] <mike5> I have tried to run a refbot with python, but that doesn't seem to work...
[10:49] <IMCensored1> refbots no longer work
[10:49] <IMCensored1> #freenet-refs is dead
[10:49] <mike5> but I never heard of this chanserv before
[10:49] <IMCensored1> darknet trading with strangers is dead... at least in IRC
[10:50] <mike5> so how do I find references?
[10:50] <Ratchet> mike5: download this file, put it in your freenet directory, turn on opennet/insecuremode in configuration and restart your node. http://downloads.freenetproject.org/alpha/opennet/seednodes.fref
[10:50] <IMCensored1> go in to your config and turn insecure mode on...
[10:50] <mike5> Is that the only possibility now? to use insecure mode?
[10:50] <IMCensored1> unfortunetly
[10:51] <mike5> I tried the seednodes.fref, but that does not seem to make much difference...
[10:51] <TheSeeker> it's better than asking strangers to trade darknet references.
[10:51] <IMCensored1> did you enable insecure mode?
[10:51] <mike5> I will try now
[10:52] <IMCensored1> Darknet w/ strangers... a LITTLE bit more secure... bad for network topology... opennet - not secure but good for topology
[10:53] <p0s> IMCensored1: i'm not on the access list yet i think.
[10:53] <mike5> I have looked in configuration, but I don't see how to set insecure mode
[10:53] <mike5> no... how do i put you on the access list? What is it for?
[10:54] <IMCensored1> im in the process of starting #freenet-newbie ... i just havent had time to recode freenethelpbot... i got a lot of projects going on... i'll get to it
[10:54] <TheSeeker> insecure mode setting is under the section: node.opennet
[10:54] <IMCensored1> mike5: the access list thing has nothing to do with you... it was mentioned before you joined the channel
[10:55] <mike5> ok thanks
[10:57] <mike5> yes i believe i found it.... thanks IMCensored!
[10:58] <mike5> :(... Now Even my homepage doesn't work anymore
[10:59] <IMCensored1> the ideal thing to do when you first start a node is to run insecure mode... then tell all your friends to run freenet, and trade references with them... having each of them also run insecure mode... and have them get all their friends to do so .. and so on... once you get about 15 friends in your friends list, turn off insecure mode, and encourage each of your friends to do the same when they reach 15 friends... this is the ideal thing...
[10:59] <IMCensored1> did you restart the node/
[10:59] <IMCensored1> ?
[10:59] <mike5> haha probably not
[10:59] <mike5> let me try
[11:01] <mike5> yes i restarted the node... still doesn't work
[11:01] <mike5> ok... sorry.... now it works
[11:01] <mike5> thanks again!

[11:13] <fanatux> hi there!
[11:13] <fanatux> is there a bot here?
[11:14] <IMCensored1> bot?
[11:14] <fanatux> yep
[11:14] * IMCensored1 points to freenetlogbot
[11:14] <fanatux> thx
[11:17] <fanatux> who is searching friends?
[11:18] <mike5> hi IMCensored... I have another question... I set my app to insecure mode, but I still don't seem to get past the first index site... all links from there appear dead
[11:20] <fanatux> wath's the suffix i must write at the end of my ref to be read by a robot?
[11:21] <mike5> ?raw
[11:21] <mike5> I believe
[11:22] <fanatux> thx
[11:22] <p0s> mike5: well, have some patience for your node to get "established" in the network.
[11:22] * Pichu0102 (n=pichu010@) Quit (Remote closed the connection)
[11:23] * Pichu0102 (n=pichu010@) has joined #freenet

[11:23] <mike5> ok thanks p0s
[11:24] * kobbay (n=kob@) has joined #freenet
[11:24] <p0s> and be patient when trying to access freesites which you have not accessed yet. it might take a few minutes till the node has downloaded them.
[11:25] <p0s> the network will get faster when more people use it :)
[11:27] <mike5> thanks p0s for your help
[11:29] <p0s> no problem
[11:30] <fanatux> mike5: how do you turn freenet in mode insecure please?

[11:46] <nextgens> p0s> done
[11:46] <nextgens> let's see if I can get you a cloack
[11:51] <beelio> how is every1?
[11:53] <beelio> hey, are there hidden people in this room?
[11:54] <fanatux> where should i put the file seednodes.fref please?
[11:55] <fanatux> i downloaded it but i don't know where i should put it
[11:56] <Ratchet> fanatux: directly in your freenet directory. where freenet.ini is...
[11:56] <fanatux> thx
[11:56] * fanatux (n=fanatux@) Quit ("Quitte")
[12:04] <p0s> nextgens: sorry was afk
[12:04] <p0s> nextgens: thanks for the cloak
[12:11] * Pichu0102 (n=pichu010@) Quit (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[12:14] * Pichu0102 (n=pichu010@) has joined #freenet
[12:21] <beelio> what's a cloak?
[12:30] <p0s> beelio: a hidden hostname in one's irc info.
[12:31] <beelio> is that how you & nextgen are able to be invisible in the user list?
[12:31] <p0s> ... i tried inserting a file with thaw for the first time. its 300mb. after thaw has uploaded it to the node, the status is "inserting" and the progress stays at 0%, and the CHK key stays "unknown"
[12:31] <p0s> what is the node doing?
[12:32] <p0s> been watching this for some 10 minutes or so.
[12:32] <p0s> beelio: well we are both in the user list?
[12:34] <Jflesch> p0s: insertions take time
[12:34] <Jflesch> a lot of time
[12:34] <p0s> Jflesch: does it calculate the hash on the fly?
[12:34] <beelio> no, the only users i can see in this room are hramrach, makomk, pichu102 and tommy[d]. even im not in there!
[12:35] <Jflesch> yes
[12:35] <p0s> Jflesch: okay then i understand this.
[12:35] <Jflesch> you will obtain the hash at 66% I think
[12:35] <Jflesch> (of the insertion)
[12:35] <p0s> the filename can be changed without changing the CHK, right?
[12:35] <Jflesch> p0s: no.
[12:35] <p0s> oh
[12:35] <Jflesch> p0s: filename is included in the hash now
[12:36] <p0s> filename says "none"
[12:36] <Jflesch> hu ?
[12:36] <kobbay_> beelio: i see everybody
[12:36] <Jflesch> strange
[12:36] <Jflesch> it shouldn't happen
[12:36] <p0s> identifier is "thaw_238_94-[the filename i chose]"
[12:36] <Jflesch> anyway what matters is the key that Thaw will give you
[12:37] <Jflesch> identitifier is not important to you, only to thaw
[12:39] <beelio> so, how does one actually find a peer that one can trust enough to join the darknet with?
[12:40] <beelio> it seems like a difficult challenge to actually get to know somoene well enough to do this
[12:41] <Jflesch> beelio: in real life, these people are called "friends" :)
[12:41] <p0s> Jflesch: mmh okay. then i'll see whether thaw sets the filename after the insertion.
[12:41] <beelio> lol @ jflesch
[12:43] * FrinkC (n=FrinkC@) has joined #freenet

[12:43] <beelio> i see
[12:47] <beelio> i saw on one of the index pages that there was something to do with the animal liberation front
[12:47] <beelio> but it is gone now
[12:47] <beelio> does anyone know where i can read about stuff done by the ALF?

[12:55] <beelio> Thanks p0s...do i just add that as an index in thaw?
[12:55] <beelio> I tried that but it has zero files in it
[12:56] <beelio> i probably added it wrong though :P
[12:57] <p0s> its not an index, its a freesite.
[12:57] <p0s> access it using the freenet webinterface.
[12:58] <p0s> home => fetch a key
[12:59] <beelio> thanks!
[12:59] <beelio> i am such a n00b :P
[13:10] <Tommy[D]> p0s: please review your code, emu was not able to build the actual trunk
[13:18] * makomk (n=aidan@) Quit (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))

[13:21] <p0s> okay thanks
[13:22] <p0s> seems like emu is using different compiler settings than the ones i checked out from the SVN
[13:28] <p0s> weird, my compiler is set to java 1.4, still it accepts stuff which is not present in 1.4

[13:32] <Smar> hmm... why freenet seems to use so much hdd all time...?
[13:32] <Smar> this noise is awful :)
[13:34] <Tommy[D]> all time?
[13:34] <Tommy[D]> does not for me
[13:34] <Smar> 15:34:27 up 3 days, 23:36, 5 users, load average: 4.78, 4.86, 3.91
[13:34] <Smar> and processor uses all it powers too

[13:34] <Tommy[D]> and if your hdds are that noisy, perhaps wrong choise? :)

[13:35] <p0s> 156% cpu usage, thats incredible :)
[13:35] <Smar> 5) Sun 32bit JRE 1.6.0.03 [emul-linux-x86-java-1.6]
[13:35] <beelio> Wow, thats some cpu you have there p0s!
[13:35] <Smar> that's yet worse with 64bit java..
[13:35] <p0s> it's smars cpu :)
[13:35] <Smar> actually, this is dual core... and it means that java is using both cores :)
[13:35] <Tommy[D]> i dont have problems here, even with 64 bit sun java
[13:35] <Smar> strange
[13:36] <Tommy[D]> stable or trunk?
[13:36] <Smar> stable
[13:36] <Smar> and even more strange, restarting didn't seem to help
[13:36] <Tommy[D]> do you have many things in queue?
[13:36] <Smar> yeah
[13:36] <Tommy[D]> thats probably why
[13:37] <Smar> they that system shouldn't leak _that_ much >_>
[13:37] <Smar> 2 downloads, 3 uploads..
[13:37] <Tommy[D]> freenet uses all cpu it can get, time depends on queue, the bigger, the longer freenet needs until its done
[13:38] <Tommy[D]> big files?
[13:38] <Smar> I don't know about dloads
[13:38] <Smar> unkown it says
[13:38] <Smar> uploads ~300M each
[13:38] <Smar> meh, freenet should not use all my of my cpus...really
[13:38] <Tommy[D]> hm, should not be that big problem for freenet
[13:39] <Tommy[D]> thats nothing i would call much
[13:39] <Smar> that's starting to be really strange then :)
[13:39] <Tommy[D]> how long did it run with this cpu usage?
[13:39] <Smar> I'm wondering if they're doing some heavy file moving or something
[13:39] <Smar> after I looked localhost:8888....
[13:40] <Smar> before that I had only one upload
[13:40] <Smar> and I launched frost
[13:40] <Smar> so, I'm not really sure _what_ caused the whole thing :(
[13:41] <Tommy[D]> uploads using fproxy or frost?
[13:41] <Smar> frost
[13:41] <nextgens> rehi
[13:41] <Smar> I have frost shat down now
[13:41] <Smar> nextgens: hi
[13:42] <Smar> and seems like it's not hdd usage that's problem..
[13:42] <Tommy[D]> perhaps remove the up- and downloads from the queue using frost, restart freenet and check if it still exits?
[13:42] <Smar> hmm, I think it'll solve it
[13:43] <Tommy[D]> it will or it does? :)
[13:43] <Smar> I just want to upload them, so I don't want to do that now...
[13:44] <Smar> I'll see if it helps after they're uploaded :/
[13:44] <Smar> though most likely it helps, I don't usually have such problems
[13:44] <Tommy[D]> the upload should resume, if nothing is broken
[13:44] <Smar> you didn't mean _remove_ then? :D
[13:45] <Smar> anyway, lunch ->
[13:45] <Tommy[D]> yes, from freenet queue using the little check box on the left of the file entry, not removing it from frost itself, adding back is then simply checking that box again
[13:52] <Smar> but need i resume the upload from start then...?
[13:54] <Tommy[D]> it should start nearly where it has been stopped, else there is something broken
[13:54] <Smar> okie
[13:54] <Smar> then there shouldn't be anything
[13:56] <Smar> meh, I can't stop one of these uploads, because last time frost exploded...
[13:57] <Tommy[D]> remove it manually from the queue and add it to frost again?
[13:58] <Smar> I'll just wait until it's ready :)
[14:03] <Smar> PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND

[14:03] <Smar> that much anymore
[14:03] <Smar> so there problem lies..
[14:09] <Smar> still 100%, and no uploads..
[14:15] <Smar> and that was downloads...
[14:16] <Smar> I'm starting to be _really_ curious why freenet takes that much process time just for downloads..
[14:19] <beelio> its copying all of the data to the nsa :p
[14:20] <Smar> doing that even if it doesn't have anything other to do...?
[14:32] <saces> Smar: at the end of the download the node is maybe healing (fec): reconstrunct blocks not found and insert them.
[14:33] <Smar> no completed download in few days..
